At Tawa Intermediate we have some extra activities called Spec. For Spec there is Cooking, Woodworks, Arts and Music. All eighteen classrooms at my school go to Spec two times a week. The Government has cut the buget for Spec and from the start of next year there will be no Spec for year 1-8 students. The bad thing about this is that all the Spec teachers from all over New Zealand are going to lose the jobs if we don't do anything about this.So my whole school are going to write letters (or other stuff) to the Government. My teacher, Ms Tito, is going to make a short movie so while we are at Spec, Ms Tito will be film us. Hopefully we can make the Government change their minds. Fingers Crossed.

ReplyDeleteThank you for your 'Spec' post. It shows me that you are passionate about trying to make a difference for not only students around NZ but also the Spec teachers.
I think schools (especially Intermediate schools) will have to be very creative in trying to provide 'spec' opportunities for their students.
I would love a post about why you think Spec is so important to students and how would you convince the government to change their mind?
Would you like to be a part of the 'planning committee' for our submission in response to the budget?
